What classes can I take at Stand Up 8?
At Stand Up 8 we are proud to be able to offer our dancers many different and popular styles of dance.
Hip Hop: Hip-hop dance refers to street dance styles primarily performed to hip-hop music or that have evolved as part of hip-hop culture. It includes a wide range of styles primarily breaking, locking, and popping which were created in the 1970's and made popular by dance crews in the United States. (Child & Adult Classes Offered)
Acrobatics: Acro dance is a style of dance that combines classical dance technique with precision acrobatic elements. It is defined by its athletic character, its unique choreography, which seamlessly blends dance and acrobatics, and its use of acrobatics in a dance context. (Child Classes Only)
Jazz: Jazz dancing is a form of dance that showcases a dancer's individual style and originality. Every jazz dancer interprets and executes moves and steps in their own way. This type of dancing is energetic and fun, consisting of unique moves, fancy footwork, big leaps and quick turns. (Child & Adult Classes Offered)
Contemporary: Contemporary dance is a style of expressive dance that combines elements of several dance genres including modern, jazz, lyrical and classical ballet. Contemporary dancers strive to connect the mind and the body through fluid dance movements. (Child & Adult Classes Offered)
Ballet: Theatrical entertainment in which dancers, usually accompanied by music, tell a story or express a mood through their movements. The technique of ballet is elaborate and requires many years of training. There are two main types of ballet, classical and modern. (Child Classes Only)
Tap: A style of dance in which a dancers wearing shoes fitted with heel and toe taps sounds out audible beats by rhythmically striking the floor or any other hard surface. (Child & Adult Classes Offered)
Lyrical: Lyrical dance is a style of dance created by merging ballet, jazz, and contemporary dance techniques. Lyrical dancing is performed to music with lyrics to inspire movements to express strong emotions the choreographer feels from the lyrics in the chosen song (Child & Adult Classes Offered)
Barre: Barre classes are a mix of Yoga, Pilates, and dance often taught to upbeat music. This classes uses the barre as well as other exercise equipment to help you slim and stretch your entire body. (16+ with Parental Consent)
Heels: Popular on the West Coast and slowly making its way to the East; the Heels class is designed to empower [men and women] through sultry dance inspired by Burlesque, Jazz-Funk, and Hip Hop techniques. We’ll start class with a quick warm up and then strut right into learning choreography that will boost your confidence and channel your inner Dita Von Tease. Like classic and neo-burlesque styles we will sometimes use props (canes, boas, fans, chairs etc…) to add a little spice. Music will be various. Choreography taught during the previous class will be reviewed so sashay in at any time! (Adult Classes only)
Stretch & Strengthen: “A Dancer’s Boot Camp”, Stretch and Strengthen is a fusion class inspired by core elements of Ballet, Yoga, Aerobics, and Barre aimed to enhance basic dancer technique. We’ll start class with a warm-up designed to wake your dancer muscles and then flow through exercises while taking time to lengthen our muscles to improve balance, posture, and poise. The class will also focus on across-the-floor sequences with proper technique in turns, kicks, and leaps. Stretch and Strengthen is an excellent supplement to current dance students looking to improve their skill level, however the moves are basic enough for a non-dancer to participate and enjoy. There is no routine taught in Stretch and Strengthen and you are welcome to drop in at any time. (Adult Classes Only)
